The history goes back, the Ministry of Transport and Communications has been an integral part of the Cameroon government since the country gained independence. Over the years, the Ministry's responsibilities have evolved to reflect the changing needs and priorities of Cameroon's transport and communications sectors, including the growing importance of digitalization and environmental sustainability.

The government started implementing e-government solutions in the early 2000s and has since pursued several digital development initiatives. Cameroon's digital strategy has evolved over time, focusing on different aspects of digitalization, such as improving public sector services, supporting innovation, and enhancing cybersecurity.

MINT

The Department of Transport was created by the government in recognition of the changing transportation environment in Cameroon at the time. It merged three departments: the former Department of Railways, the Department of Marine, and the Civil Aviation Branch to rationalize the governance and provision of all forms of transportation (air, water and land).

Transport ministry of cameroon had a wide range of operational responsibilities Seaway, airports and seaports, as well as Via Rail and CAM Rail. Significant cuts to Transport Camroon at that time resulted in CAM Rail being privatized, and the seaway and various ports and airports being transferred to local operating authorities. Transport ministry of Cameroon emerged from this process as a department focused on policy and regulation rather than transportation operations.
